As travel returns don’t get caught out
Before you update your location status on social media have you ever thought about the risk associated with this? More and more burglaries have occurred over recent years based on the fact that people have openly shared holiday plans online showing the length and location of their whereabouts and inadvertently advertising that their home will be empty. There are several ways that you can lower the risk of a burglary whilst you are away;
Change your settings to ensure only friends and family can view your activity, this will restrict the amount of personal information that is visible online and will also limit your risk of identify fraud and phishing attacks.
Wait until you are back home to upload those holiday snaps. Do they all need to uploaded whilst you are away?
Check the geolocation settings on your phone. If your GPS is enabled, it’s sharing your location which could reveal information like your home address or the fact you are away. Unless you really need to use it, switch it off.
A home intruder alarm or CCTV system works as an excellent deterrent and also provides added security and surveillance to your property whilst you aren’t there.
